recent in 5 (#2)

Loving this new tradition of “recent in 5!” A few favorites this week…

- browsing the beautiful books, pamphlets and prints at Boekie Woekie (Berenstraat 16), an artist-run bookstore for books by artists in Amsterdam;
- a visit to Huis Marseille, the first photography museum in Amsterdam, housed in a gorgeous canal house on the Keizersgracht (401) for the exhibition, “Scarlett Hooft Graafland: Soft Horizons” on display until December 11th;
- biking down the Keizersgracht;
- catching with a dear friend over an afternoon cappuccino;
- the lovely Zuivere Koffie on the Utrechtsestraat (39).

two for joy coffee roasters (amsterdam)

Finally, I made it to Two For Joy Coffee Roasters on the Haarlemmerdijk. I’ve been biking by for a few weeks now and keep wanting to drop in for a coffee, but I’ve never had the time. Last Friday, I made time.

The Haarlemmerdijk location is very new (and very conveniently close to my apartment!) They’ve been open at the Frederiksplein for about a year now. The interior of the Haarlemmerdijk shop is very minimalistic…

… Which makes it a great place to read or study.

I had been biking around the city all Friday morning so I decided on a large iced latte, that was simultaneously fabulously bitter and sweet at the same…

There’s something about brick walls…

I grabbed a magazine to read while I sipped my iced latte – Acne Paper, ever heard of it? It’s only published twice a year but you can read the magazine online, here’s the latest issue. I glanced briefly at an article about the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, Russia…

I’ll have to try their home baked goods sometime…

Two For Joy Coffee Roasters can be found on the Haarlemmerdijk 182 (featured above) and Frederiksplein 29, open Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 7pm and Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 6pm. Follow Two For Joy on Twitter and Facebook to stay up to date.

stumptown coffee roasters (portland)

Coffee! If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I like coffee. And I love trying coffee in new cities, like Monmouth Coffee at Borough Market in London (if you’re ever in London, you HAVE to go here!) Stumptown is an independent coffee company, “the iconic and fiercely independent company that helped define coffee in [Portland]” and has recently been sold to a New York investment firm, according to this article. Nevertheless, I had to try!

Mmmm…

I love coffee shops, end of story.

monmouth coffee (london)

A visit to Borough Market (see previous posts here and here) wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the famous, and delicious, Monmouth Coffee shop.

They make single cone filter coffee (see below) and espresso based drinks…

And they serve pastries and bread from bakeries like Paul and Villandry (we didn’t try any but will definitely have to next time)…

Mmmm Monmouth Coffee is delicious…

Monmouth Coffee has 3 locations, the one in Borough Market can be found at 2 Park Street, The Borough, London SE1 9AB and is open Monday to Saturday from 7.30am to 6pm. The other two locations are in Covent Garden and Bermondsey, visit their website for more information.
