weekend in 3 (#58)

This weekend… A stop by Brouwerij ‘t IJ on Friday afternoon // followed by a picnic in the Oosterpark until late in the evening (previous Oosterpark picnic) // breakfast on the roof on Saturday morning // lunch with my parents before a preview of the newly renovated building of the Stedelijk Museum, designed by Mels Crouwel of Benthem Crouwel (the museum will finally open its doors on Sunday 23 September!) // more afternoon rooftop hangouts // another picnic in Vondelpark for the last of the day’s sun // before heading to Melkweg (Lijnbaansgracht 234) to see Beach House, the dreamy pop duo of French-born Victoria Legrand and Baltimore native Alex Scally, perform their latest album, Bloom (an incredible show!) // a lazy Sunday morning/afternoon spent, again, on the roof // headed home on Sunday afternoon for a dinner with my grandparents // making the most of the long-weekend by visiting The New York Times Magazine Photographs exhibition at Foam (Keizersgracht 609) in its last days (watch this video of director of the magazine and curator of the exhibition, Kathy Ryan) // a walk down the Utrechtsestraat before stopping by Frozz (Utrechtsestraat 27; see previous post) and sitting along the Keizersgracht watching the boats (and swans!) go by…

fashion&foam (amsterdam)

The newest initiative of the photography museum Foam (Keizersgracht 609), &Foam, opened its doors on Thursday 26 January. Remember the Foam Pop-In store at the Museumplein? &Foam is a unique new shop located at the Vijzelstraat 78, that sells photography magazines, books, prints and more.

Four times a year, &Foam will engage in surprisingly new collaborations and following Fashion&Foam, there will be Music&Foam, followed by Design&Foam and Film&Foam later in the year.

The new concept store has a collection of a photography books including those by fashion photographers Terry Richardson and Richard Avedon. The guest curator for the exhibition was Niels Klavers, head of Fashion at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. He has put together a small exhibion, ‘ONDER ANDEREN…’ or ‘Among Others,’ where he invited 20 alumni of the Rietveld Academie to provide a distinctive item from their collection and has resulted in “a unique installation [that] contains applied art pieces and original designs and reflects the vision of the Academie’s fashion department over the past 20 years.”

Additionally, Foam Editions (Foam’s very own gallery) presents a selection of unique signed prints by young talented photographs at reasonable prices, and has included work by like this portrait of American actress Chloe Sevigny by Anouschka Blommers & Niels Schumm and a photo series Seven Feet Under by Philippe Vogelenzang.

&Foam is located on the Vijzelstraat 78, just around the corner from the museum which is located at Keizersgracht 609 (see previous post). The store is open Monday and Sunday from 12-6pm, Tuesday-Saturday from 10am to 6pm and Thursday evenings till 9pm. This second edition of &Foam will take place mid-April, when it becomes Music&Foam, curated by Antal Heitlager of the record label Rush Hour.
