city trip: paris day 1 (august ’09)

Not even a week after my weekend away to Brussels, I trained with my sister to meet my parents for a lovely 4 day weekend in the City of Lights, Paris. I highly recommend the Thalys from The Netherlands (Amsterdam Central, Schiphol Airport or Rotterdam Central) to Paris Nord – it’s incredibly fast and so relaxing, once you’re seated, there’s nothing to worry about! My mother, sister and I have been going to Paris for a few days in the summer for the past few years, and we have been staying at the Hotel Quartier Latin (see website) in the 5th arrondisement almost every time. This year, we decided to mix things up – we found an apartment in the Marais with Bridgestreet Apartments (see website for more information). Bridgestreet Apartments has around 10 beautiful apartments in the city of Paris (a number of them located on the Champs-Elysees, the one in the Marais, and one the Saint-Germain area), all beautifully furnished and very comfortable.

After settling in, we decided to head right into the Marais, to find somewhere to eat for dinner. We happened upon this adorable little passageway of restaurants and cafes, right around the corner from Boulevard de Sebastopol.

Our walk took us past the Centre Pompidou…

And into the heart of the Marais…

One of our favorite streets of all of Paris is the rue Vieille du Temple in the Marias. Here you’ll find a series of restaurants by the same branch, Cafeine, including those of Les Philosophes (28 rue Vieille du Temple), Le petit fer a cheval (30 rue Vieille du Temple), L’etoile manquante (34 rue Vieille du Temple) and La chaise au plafond (10 rue du Tresor). As Les Philosophes was full to the brim, we ate at La chaise au plafond, a sister-restaurant just around the corner, and with the same menu. And what’s great about these restaurants is their daily specials – I ordered a wonderfully French Quiche Lorraine with a side salad, just perfect. Other recommendations? The Philosophes salad, lettuce with goat cheese on toasted bread, beets, avocado, and more.

Bon nuit Paris 🙂
