greenwoods (amsterdam)

One of the few places for a traditional ‘brunch,’ Greenwoods can be found along the beautiful Singel, just a few streets away from the Noordermarkt (a great stroll after a hearty breakfast on a Saturday morning)…

A traditional ‘English tea room,’ Greenwoods offers High Teas with tea from Van Geels & Co., a tea company that has existed in Amsterdam for more than 140 years.  A Classic High Tea for 5.95 euros a person gets you a cup of tea and an organic scone with Devonshire clotted cream and strawberry jam, while a Deluxe High Tea comes with that AND home-made soda bread with smoked salmon and cream cheese as well as 4 petit sandwiches and cakes for 14.95 a person. Sounds delicious! They also serve sandwiches (Club Special, BLT, Tuna… the usual) as well as a daily soup and a Greenwoods Caesar Salad.

We were lucky that the weather was warm enough to sit outside on an October morning…

I opted for an egg dish, the Quick Breakfast of scrambled eggs and chives with brown toast, while a friend of mine ordered the Club Sandwich, pictured below…

Greenwoods is located at Singel 103 (way down the canal from Singel 404) and is open Monday to Thursday from 9.30am to 5pm and Friday to Sunday till 6pm.
