café george (amsterdam)

Last week was my first visit to New York-style bistro, Cafe George (also known as the “proverbial French-brasserie-in-New-York… but then in Amsterdam”). Nevermind that it was a Thursday morning and we were the only ones there, everything about this cafe is just wonderful.

The small round tables and wooden chairs…

The large dark wooden bar in the middle of the room…

With a varied menu of breakfast options (scrambled eggs and toast for 4 euros, can it get any better than that?), lunch (like the Salade Nicoise, pictured below, and plenty of sandwiches) and a wide range of dinner dishes (meat, fish and salads), there’s something for everyone (and for every time of day).

Cafe George is open daily from 11am to 11pm for breakfast, lunch and dinner and can be found at Leidsegracht 64. There are two other George’s in Amsterdam: the restaurant and deli in Oud-Zuid, George W.P.A. (Willemsparkweg 70) and the new deli on Rembrandtplein (17 Utrechsestraat) above Marqt.
